an exhibition was organized on 'Books
on Books', from 23.04.2001 to 30.05-4.2001. On this
occasion, a bibliography was compiled containing 80 entries. |

To commemorate 40 years of the conquest
of space by man, an exhibition was organized on 'Yurii Gagarin and Space', from 07.06.2001
to 20.06.2001 and 'Valentina Tereskova'-extended
up to 23.06.2001. On this occasion, a bibliography was compiled
for 54 entries in English and other Indian languages. |

An exhibition was organized on 'Sanskrit
Language', from 17.07.2001 to 23.07.2001. On this
occasion one monograph entitled 'Catalogue
of Sanskrit manuscript available in the National Library'
was released. |

on the history of Kolkata, delivered a lecture
on Asia's first Circulatory Library (1770 - 1786)
in Calcutta, on 14th August,
2001 at the Exhibition Hall of the Library at Belvedere, Kolkata. |

the Srimanta Sankara Deva Kalakshetra, Guwahati,
Assam from 24-28 September 2001.Smt. Hemaprabha Saikia,
Honourable Minister, Govt. of Assam inaugurated the workshop. |

'A National Round Table on Modernisation
and Networking of Libraries in India' was held at
New Delhi. The session was inaugurated by Sri Jagmohan, the Hon'ble
Union Minister of Tourism and Culture. Issues on the Electronic
Libraries in Rural India, the National Library, Public Library
services, Department of Culture libraries along with Delivery
of Books Act and National Bibliographic Control database were
discussed. |

On the occasion of the Birth Centenary
of Prof. Nirmal Kumar Bose, a renowned anthropologist
and freedom fighter, the National Library had organised an exhibition of his
publications. The exhibition was on till 31st January, 2002.
Shri. Viren J. Shah, H. E. the then
Governor of West Bengal had inaugurated the exhibition
as well as had launched the official
web site of the National Library (www.nlindia.org) on
22 January 2002 at 4.30 p.m.
on the same day. The
website was designed by M/S Cyber Animatrix Pvt. Ltd. Shri Shah
He had also released one CD ROM on the activities of the National
Library. |

Dr. P.T. Nair delivered a lecture on 'Belvedere - the home of the National
Library' on 29th January, 2002 at the Exhibition Hall
of the Main Building of the Library. Dr. Pratap Chandra Chunder,
former Education Minister, Govt. of India, presided over the
function. |

The National Library Organised a '
Seminar and Workshop on Delivery of Books Act and Conservation
of Documentary Heritage' in collaboration with the
Salar Jung Museum, Hyderabad from
24th to 26th February, 2002 at the Salar Jung Museum Auditorium,
Hyderabad.
The function inaugurated by the Chief Guest Dr. C. Narayana
Reddy, eminent poet and Chairman of the Andhra Pradesh State
Cultural Council. Dr. A. K. V. S. Reddy, Director, Salar Jung
Museum welcomed the participants and Dr. Shymal Kanti Chakravarti,
Director National Library delivered keynote address. The workshop
was attended by over 80 librarians of all district central Libraries
in Andhra Pradesh.
A photographic exhibition on Physical Conservation and Down Memory
Lane - a digitization Programme of the National Library was organized.
The National Library Publications were also exhibited during
the seminar and workshop.

Prof. Ramachandra Purve, Minister In-charge of Primary Education,
Govt. of Bihar and presided by Prof. Sham Shad Hussain, Ex-Vice
Chancellor, Nalanda Open University, Patna. About 150 publishers
& author, attended the workshop. |
