National library, Kolkata organized - under the project - Activities for the Northeast States of India - 'a seminar and workshop on Delivery of Books Act, 1954 and conservation of documentary heritage' at the Srimanta Sankara Deva Kalakshetra, Guwahati, Assam from 24-28 September 2001. Smt. Hemaprabha Saikia, Honourable Minister, Govt. of Assam inaugurated the workshop.

The workshop was attended by authors, publishers, intellectuals and librarians of North East States of India. Forty-five library professionals from the different states of Northeast participated in the conservation training and were awarded certificates. The workshop was arranged with the co-operation of the Directorate of Libraries, Govt. of Assam and Srimanta Sankara Deva Kalkshetra, Guwahati.

An exhibition of the National Library publications and the current publications of Assam received under the Delivery of Books Act was also arranged on the occasion.
