Vaiyapuri Pillai Collection

Prof. Vaiyapuri Pillai (1891-1956) was an outstanding lexicographer. He edited and published many Tamil classics, after carefully examining all available manuscripts. He was the editor of Tamil lexicon published by the Madras University. Being a voracious reader and a devoted scholar, he had built during his life-time, a collection, which is offered to the National Library. It comprises of 2943 books and manuscripts in English, Tamil, French, German and Malayalam. The main subjects covered in this collection are : English languages and literature, History, Philosophy and Tamil languages and literature. The Library has published a check list of palm leaves available in this collection.
