Ramdas Sen Collection

Ramdas Sen (1845-1887) of Baharampur, West Bengal was a noted writer and academician. He was the member of Asiatic Society of Bengal, the Sanskrit Text Society of London, the Oriental Academy of Florence, the Societa Asiatica Italiana of Italy, Royal Society of Great Britain and many other academies.
He was an in-fatigable collector of old and rare Bengali and Sanskrit books. His collection of about 3,500 books was donated to the National Library, India, in 1951. The collection is rich in history, literature, philosophy and religion. The collection has some rare items like Renell's Bengal Atlas (1770). It has also about 75 Bengali and Sanskrit manuscripts.

Barid Baran Mukherjee's Collection

Barid Baran Mukherjee (1874-1940) was a doctor and had collected about 50,000 books. According to his wishes, after his death his children and heirs donated 30,000 books to Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture, Kolkata and 3,000 to the National library. Mukherjee's Collection in the library contains many rare items which are indispensable for research on Indian history and culture.
